One user wondered what the point of a remake or sequel to Terraria is, to which Redigit replied: "You ain't seen nothing yet". In May 2022, Redigit asked on Twitter which game the community wanted a remake of (it was implied the issue is not too serious), and one of the voting options was Terraria. In May 2019, Redigit and Cenx mentioned plans to develop a successor to Terraria. The Terraria 2 teaser comes in the form of several Re-Logic employees changing their location on Twitter to several different things, some of which imply that something will be happening with a Terraria sequel. Redigit has since returned working on Terraria full-time. It was originally mentioned that Redigit would be working on Terraria: Otherworld before developing Terraria 2, but Terraria: Otherworld was cancelled on April 13, 2018. Terraria 2 has been in some form of development since February 2012. Cenx mentioned "many new hook mechanics" and noted that Terraria 2 will be based on a different engine than Terraria, which uses the. Specifically, he revealed that there are likely going to be infinite worlds, more biome diversity, and a cohesive lore. He "want to expand on the whole Terraria universe". Terraria's lead developer, Redigit, explained that while the game will have "a lot in common with the original", it will also be "quite different".
